Lots of Opportunity to Be Involved in the Calvary United Church
Adults
There are a number of different opportunities to become part of a group in our church. The church office can help you get more information on a group or help you join a group. There are also a number of different ways in which we join together to help the community.
Groups
United Church Women (also known as the UCW) – all women are welcome to be a part of this group. The general UCW is divided up into units which are smaller and make getting to know people easier. The UCW are a group dedicated to community building, service to the church and education.
Choir – you might guess that this group is dedicated to singing! The Choir is open to all who enjoy singing, whether or not one can read music. Almost every Sunday the Choir performs an anthem which relates to the theme of the worship service.
Bible Study – we have a number of different adult studies that happen at Calvary. There is a weekly Bible Study on Tuesday mornings but there are also evening studies that happen around Christmas and Easter. Adult Faith meet weekly in the evenings.
Committees
The work of the church requires that people give their time as volunteers so that we can follow God’s call to peace and compassion in the world.
Adult Christian Education – organizes the adult book, topical and bible studies
Christian Education – looks after the Sunday School and Youth Group
Council – is the committee that takes general leadership of the committees and the church as a whole
Fellowship – finds leadership for fundraisers, social events and coffee after the Sunday worship service
Mission and Outreach – look for opportunities for our church to engage and help the community of Prince Albert and the world
Stewardship – encourage the congregation to give generously to the work of the church
Worship – help the ministers plan and organize worship services
Activities
These are ways in which we seek to make the world a better place.
Care and Share Emergency Food Bank – when families have used up their Share-a-Meal Food Bank privileges and still don’t have enough to eat, our church can provide a food hamper. Volunteers hand out the hampers on the direction of social workers.
Pastoral Care – a small group of dedicated volunteers visit the hospital and the long term care homes in Prince Albert to make sure that those who cannot come to worship still receive social contact from our church.
Prince Albert Ministerial Association – we join with our Sisters and Brothers in Christ in a variety of ways to serve the Prince Albert community.
Refugee sponsorship – on occasion our church will band together to sponsor a refugee family so that they might find a new safe home in Prince Albert.
